The Challenge
Mick's bakery had been a York institution for 20 years but was invisible online. Tourists visiting York couldn't find him, and he was missing out on wholesale enquiries from local cafes and restaurants who wanted to order his sourdough in bulk. His daughter convinced him he needed a website after watching three different groups of tourists walk past the shop because they'd been searching on their phones and found a different bakery.
What We Cooked Up
A warm, inviting website with a product gallery, opening times, a wholesale enquiry form, and a simple online ordering system for click-and-collect. We kept the design homely and traditional — nothing too slick or modern that wouldn't match the feel of a proper old-school bakery. The allergen information is clearly laid out, which Mick says has saved him answering the same questions on the phone ten times a day.
The Results
Online orders are coming through steady — about 15-20 a day for click and collect. The wholesale enquiry form has brought in 4 new cafe contracts. The bounce rate dropped 31% and Mick says tourists now walk in saying they found the bakery on Google. He wishes he'd done it years ago.
